What to expect

Dear Friend,

If you are planning to visit our church, we hope the following information will be helpful to you in preparation for your first visit.

As you approach the church building, you will immediately notice that it does not look like a traditional church. In fact the structure was once a milk processing plant and later was converted by another local church into a youth center. The building then stood unused for several years. The building was bought by the small Calvary Chapel Cumberland congregation in 2011, and extensive interior remodeling was done. In 2016, the outside of the church was given a facelift with the cross and stonework where block windows once were.

As you enter the church you can expect to be welcomed by a greeter. Most first time visitors remark how comfortable and relaxed the atmosphere is. If you arrive early, you will find the people who have come for worship enjoying conversation and coffee in the fellowship area, just beyond the foyer. You too are invited to join them for a cup of coffee or tea, and conversation. Coffee and tea are found in the kitchen area.

If you have children ages 6 months to 12 years, they are encouraged to attend our children's ministry, called King's Kids, for the 10:30 A.M. service. For children 6 months to 4 years old, upon entering the church building, please take the stairs on your right. A Church Greeter will help direct you. For children ages 5 to 12 years, you will find a children's ministry volunteer in the foyer who will sign in your child and give you a number card. The children will worship in the sanctuary with the congregation and then proceed upstairs for Children's Church. Infants 0 to 6 months may stay with their parents in service or a parent may use the Infant's Room adjacent to the sanctuary on the first floor. For more information about children’s ministry please see the King’s Kids page located under the ministry button on our website.

At 8:30 A.M. or 10:30 A.M., you will hear a "call to worship" song play, and you will notice the fellowship area empty as people begin to fill the sanctuary in preparation to worship God. After the first song, you will be welcomed to the church and announcements will be made.  The fellowship will pray and you will be asked to stand and join in singing several worship songs, led by our worship team. Bible study will follow and will continue for about 45 minutes.   If you have a Bible, you are encouraged to bring it with you. If you do not have a Bible with you, we are happy to let you borrow one and an usher will hand out Bibles before Bible study begins. If you do not own a Bible, you are welcome to keep the one handed to you by the usher.

Once Bible study is over, a final worship song will play. Following service, many people stay and fellowship. Coffee will still be available, so feel free to grab a cup, get to know some people, or ask Pastor Luke some questions following the service. If you have a child in King’s Kids, you will need to return upstairs to meet your child..

We hope this information will give you an idea of what to expect when visiting Calvary Chapel Cumberland for the first time. We look forward to meeting you and your family soon!

In Christ,

Pastor Luke and the Congregation of Calvary Chapel Cumberland
